Gideon: Dealing with Insecurities
Judges 6:1-16

• Physical setbacks/health issues
• Job security/financial concerns
• Body image/physical appearance
• Relational/emotional intimacy

What we say…
• “I’m not good enough.”
• “I’m afraid of failing.”
• “I feel really alone.”
• “I don’t like aging.”
• “I don’t fit in.”

Insecurities come when…
1. I focus on my circumstances
“…if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us?” vs. 13

2. I focus on my inadequacies
“…my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.” vs. 15
• Because of my background
• Because of who I am

Security comes when I see…
1. God’s presence is with me
“The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.” vs. 12

2. God’s might is in me “Go in this might of yours…” vs. 14

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

3. God’s mission works through me
“…and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?” vs. 14
“…you shall strike the Midianites as one man.” vs. 16

“One reason many of us get entangled in sin is because we don’t have enough God-ordained vision to keep us busy.” Mark Batterson – Wild Goose Chase

4. God’s perspective transforms me

God doesn’t see you as the flawed person in the present,
but as the person you will become in the future!
